Narrative Perspectives
Narrative Perspectives (2021) is een locatie-specifieke, interactieve installatie die een vergeten beukenlaan in een bos nieuw leven inblaast en transformeert tot een plek voor contemplatie, vertraging en meerdere perspectieven. Deze eeuwenoude weg ligt letterlijk in de spanningszone tussen een snelweg en een beschermd natuurgebied; een niemandsland waar ecologie, economie en stilte botsen.
Verspreid over dit pad heb ik vijf individuele observatieposten geplaatst, ontworpen om het lichaam in specifieke posities te plaatsen: liggend, knielend, ondersteboven kijkend of bewegend op het ritme van de bomen. Elk object biedt een uniek perspectief op het landschap, het geluid en de wrijving van de plek. De bezoeker wordt uitgenodigd om langzamer te kijken, om zowel de stilte als het conflict te ervaren.
De installatie oordeelt niet, maar vergroot juist de aandacht. Ze nodigt uit tot een scenografische wandeling waar natuurlijke tijd en menselijke versnelling elkaar kruisen. Door fysieke positionering en zintuiglijke stilte ontstaat een dialoog tussen de omgeving en de bezoeker: Wie kijkt? Wie beweegt? En wat missen we eigenlijk als we te snel voorbijgaan?
In een wereld waar stilte steeds schaarser wordt, wil Narrative Perspectives een ruimte bieden waar het lichaam opnieuw leert luisteren.
Narrative Perspectives (2021) is a site-specific, interactive installation that reactivates a forgotten beech avenue in a forest into a place for contemplation, slowness, and multiple perceptions. This centuries-old road literally sits in the tension zone between a highway and a protected nature reserve; a no-man's-land where ecology, economy, and silence collide.
Scattered along this path I installed five individual observation posts, designed to place the body in specific positions: lying down, kneeling, looking upside down, or moving to the rhythm of the trees. Each object offers a unique perspective on the landscape, the sound, and the friction of the place. The visitor is invited to look more slowly, to experience both the stillness and the insoluble conflict.
The installation does not impose judgment, but rather heightens attention. It invites for a scenographic walk where natural time and human acceleration intersect. Through physical positioning and sensory stillness, a dialogue arises between the environment and the visitor: Who is watching? Who is moving? And what is actually missed if we pass by too quickly?
In a world where silence is becoming increasingly scarce, Narrative Perspectives aims to provide a space where the body learns to listen again.
