Temporary installation at De Cannenburch castle, Vaassen

In the water surrounding Cannenburch Castle, three abstract forms appear – fragile, reflective, only noticeable if you come close to the water. They emerged from a close reading of the castle itself: fragments of disorganized brickwork in the facades, remnants of centuries of renovations and reinterpretations.
Your changes may be lost if you don't save them (2018) is a sculptural intervention situated between history and memory, between physical traces and digital metaphors. Rather than reconstructing historical perfection, the project focuses on the fractures and frayed edges: places where the past visibly rubs against the future.
The three sculptures are based on so-called "construction scars"—traces of interventions by successive residents of the castle. Where the architectural logic breaks, sculptural quality emerges: unintentional compositions of form, rhythm, and material. I selected my favorite fragments and reflected them in the water, as a reminder of everything that changed but was allowed to remain visible. The title, taken from a digital warning, adds another layer to the work: What happens to changes that aren't saved? What is lost if we only keep what's finished?
Between brick and water, between documentation and oblivion, the work invites a reappraisal of the unfinished, the unintended, the imperfect.
